This program is the first of its kind in the guiding industry in South Africa and the main focus of this course is the FGASA level ONE Trail Guide Qualification. No this is not just another gap or volunteer course, we offer so much more. This hands on intense academic course would provide universities students or graduates with not only bush skills & knowledge and a couple of qualifications but a life changing adventure and exploration!
We are based on the beautiful Amakhala Game Reserve ( in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. Our Ulovane camp is a little patch of heaven situated in the middle of the reserve, where Elephants, Black Rhino, Zebra’s and Cheetah are just a few of the animals that frequent our area. ABOUT THE COURSE:
QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDED IN THIS CERTIFICATE:
FGASA Level 1 preparation, theoretical examination and practical assessment
FGASA Advanced Rifle Handling
THETA Nature Site Guide (NQF2) skills program
SASSETA 1075 – Use of a rifle, unit standard
FGASA Tracks and Tracking, Interpretive skills, 4X4 Driving skills, basic vehicle mechanics, Outdoor First Aid Level One and Dangerous Animals Knowledge components are added into the Certificate to ensure well rounded guides, who have an above average understanding of their surroundings.

Grasses, Shrubs & Trees, Wild Flowers, Amphibians, Birds, Arthropoda, Reptiles, Fish, Mammals, Dangerous Animals Knowledge
Earth studies
Taxonomy, Geology, Astronomy, Ecology, Conservation Management, Biomes, Climatology, Historical Human Habitation, Ethology
Skills development subjects
interpretive skills, Motor vehicle & 4X4 Driving skills, Advanced Rifle Handling, Tracking skills, Field Guiding as a profession, creating a guided experience
Theoretical examinations and work book assignments will take place every second week and the pass mark for all the tests are 75%.
Field trips to Rhodes University in Grahamstown ( Bay World in Port Elizabeth, Addo Elephant National Park ( beautiful beaches, river mouths and other interesting sites in the area, are designed to broaden understandings and general knowledge of the theoretical subjects which you will be dealing with during the week.
