Day-1: Upington for Augrabies Falls, Northern Cape, South Africa
Upon arrival in Upington you will collect your vehicle and receive a short briefing on the optimum use of the vehicle and general familiarization on the instrument panel, driving regulations and emergency equipment. You will also receive a comprehensive information pack, which would contain a road map for the area, detailed directions to all the destinations on the route and contact details for activities which you may be interested to partake in.
My mid-day you will depart from Upington and drive yourself to Augrabies Falls, where the Orange River plunges 56m down a rock face. The Khoi people called it ‘Aukoerebis’, or place of Great Noise, as this powerful flow of water is unleashed from rocky surroundings characterized by the 18-km abyss of the Orange River Gorge. In the afternoon you can explore that falls or go for a game drive in the reserve to observe the unique plant and animal life.
Day-2: Depart Augrabies Falls for Fish River Canyon, Namibia
After breakfast you will depart towards Namibia and following border procedures at Ariamsvlei Border Post you will be well on your way to Fish River Canyon. This canyon is the second largest canyon in the world and is sure to take your breath away. As you stand at the edge of this topographic wonder, you feel is sense of insignificance in relation to the forces of nature, as glaciers, water, extreme temperature and wind eroded the canyon of millions of years. The best time to enjoy the splendour of this canyon is at sunrise or sunset.
Day-3&4: Sossusvlei, Namibia
Following a last glimpse over the Canyon you will depart towards Sesriem and on to Sossusvlei, home to the worlds largest sand dune. This magnificent white clay pan is encroached by dunes moving for thousands of years, marking the end of the journey for the Tsauchab River towards the ocean.. You will spend two days in this great location, giving you enough time to do sight seeing, walk the dunes to enjoy the feeling of accomplishment and the few from the top and to take plenty of photographs of the red sand dunes as the sun paints beautiful shades on the landscape.
Accommodation: Sossusvlei Lodge
Day-5&6: Swakopmund, Namibia
After a good breakfast you will tackle the long drive to Swakopmund, second largest town in Namibia. This interesting German settlement has beautiful German architecture and is full of history and interesting stories about the people of this region. You will stay in Swakopmund for two days, giving you the opportunity to explore this vibbie town, with its many restaurants and pubs or join is one of the many activities offered in the surrounding areas i.e. dune surfing, quad biking, horse riding, etc. Take the time to visit Walvis Bay, just 20km south of Swakopmund.
Day-7&8: Brandberg, Namibia
By mid-morning you will be ready to greet the town good bye and set off to your next adventure. Today you will travel to Brandberg. En-route you will first visit the Cape Cross Seal Colony, before turning inland towards Uis. The majestic Erongo mountain range of the Brandberg massif, emerges mysteriously from the surrounding flat arid scrubland. The Konigstein peak at 2,573m is the highest in the country and forms just part of this range, which is impressive when viewed from any direction. You will stay in Brandberg for two days giving you enough time to visit the well known Bushman art sights in this region.
Day-9: Kamanjab, Namibia
Today you will travel north towards Kamanjab. Kamanjab is a small town in the Damaraland region. The most unusual sight you will see in town, are local Herero women dressed in their traditional costume. German missionaries found the locals so scantily clad that, for the sake of propriety, they dressed them up from ankle to neck (with full under-petticoats) in Victorian garb. A wide hat went with the outfit and gradually the Herero women took it as their traditional costume. You can also visit a traditional Himba Village – the last traditional tribe in Namibia – to experience their culture and nomadic life syle.
Day-10 to12: Etosha, Namibia
After a hearty breakfast you will depart Kamanjab and enter the wilderness of the Etosha National Park. You will fill the next 3 days with game drives. Etosha is a beautiful National Park with plenty animals and easy game viewing. Depending of the season, animals will roam the open plains or cluster around watering holes, where you will see herds of zebra, impala, springbok, lions and elephants. Be sure to go to Etosha Pan, where you can park at the pan edge to view the vastness of this moon landscape.
Day-13: Waterberg Plateau, Namibia
After an early breakfast you will take to the road and travel to Otjiwarongo and then swerve east towards the Waterberg Plateau. Situated in north-central Namibia, the Waterberg Plateau Area is a fascinating region of remarkable geological formations and ancient dinosaur footprints. This area is famous for the several fossilised animal tracks that have been preserved there for more than 200 million years. The largest footprint - that of a large dinosaur - measures as much as 25 metres in length.
Day-14: Windhoek, Namibia
Today is the last day of your safari, so take a slow drive down to Windhoek. Look at the scenery and try to take in as much a possible. Namibia is a land of stark landscape, fascinating cultures and splendid game viewing. You will be sad to reach Windhoek because this is where you romance with this journey ends. You will drop off the vehicle and be transferred to the airport, from where you will depart back home.
