"7 Day Garden Route Views"

Do as the Khoi-San did and join us on an expedition between Algoa Bay (Port Elizabeth) and George, along the eastern coastline of South Africa and experience the wonders this natural area presents.
Places that we will visit include, Port Elizabeth, Garden Route, Tsitsikamma, Monkeyland, Plettenburg Bay, Knysna, Wilderness and George.

Itinerary:

Day 1 Port Elizabeth, South Africa
Day 2 Tsitsikamma, Garden Route
Day 3 Plettenburg Bay, Garden Route
Day 4 Plettenburg Bay, Garden Route
Day 5 Wilderness, Garden Route
Day 6 Port Elizabeth, South Africa
Day 7 Port Elizabeth
Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival, short city tour and overnight in Port Elizabeth
(Stay over in Port Elizabeth, Lodge.)

Day 2: After a hearty breakfast we will leave the city behind and drive along the scenic N2 route across the impression Van Stadens gorge towards Jeffreysbay, surfing capital of the world. Amongst the impressive waves we will be entertained by schools of dolphins playing in the breakers. From there we will travel a short distance to Kareedouw, which forms the gateway to the fertile Langkloof, where most of South Africa’s export fruits are grown. The road takes us though rolling hills covered in rich ‘fynbos’ and ‘proteas’: South Africa’s national flower. En-route we will be met with one of South Africa’s giants – the Big Yellow Wood Tree in the Garden of Eden. By lunch time we will reach our destination for the day, Storms river Mouth in the Tsitsikamma National Park. The views of the ocean and mountains are breath taking. After a light lunch we will brave the suspension bridge across the river mouth and ascend to a magnificent look out, from which you can see miles of uninterrupted coastline. As the mist drift in from over the sea, the day will close eating fresh oysters on the patio, chatting about the wonders of this region.
(Stay over in the Tsitsikamma area, Lodge.)

Day 3: It’s going to be an exciting day, so best to take a healthy breakfast. You will have the option to embark on a nature hike to “The Waterfall”, a hike which forms part of the world renowned Ottor Hiking Trail. This trail takes you across the rocky landscape of the coastline and inside the fairy land forest, with wild ferns and giant trees. By mid-morning we will depart further on our excursion along the coast to Monkey Land near Plettenberg Bay. This sanctuary is home to variety of monkeys, from all over the world. This park gives you the opportunity walk amongst these interesting primates in a forest setting. As the sun sets, we will enter Plettenberg Bay, a holiday town that never sleeps.
(Stay over in the Plettenberg Bay area, Lodge.)

Day 4: As the sun warms up the earth we will enter the cool waters of the Keerbooms River to wind down the river bends in broad base kayaks. The day will be filled with easy rowing, with plenty of time to take in the majestic mountainous landscape and vegetation. The wetlands have a prolific bird life which will entertain and amaze. Lunch will be served on the river banks under large willow trees on colourful blankets. By late afternoon we will return to the lodge after a good day of exercise and site seeing.
(Stay over in the Plettenberg Bay area, Lodge.)

Day 5: We will leave Keerbooms River to make our way to Knysna. Knysna is a Khoi word which means “straight down”, which is a good description of the majestic Knysna Heads at the Knysna River mouth. This coastal town is any shopper’s dream with plenty of quaint shops, restaurants and other odysseys. The visit will include a quick stop over at the harbour development with its moat bridge over the marina. Knysna is located at the heart of the first gold rush era in South Africa. We will visit this historic site and sip refreshments on the ‘stoep’ of one of the original miner’s houses – now converted to a small restaurant. Knysna has a colourful history and you will the opportunity to wonder down memory lane in commemorance of the hopeful miners and poor forest workers of the yesteryear.
(Stay over in the Wilderness area, Lodge.)

Day 6: Early this morning we will travel to George to catch the Outeniqua Choo Choo train. The railway line between George and Knysna was built in 1922, over a distance of 67 km. Travelling on this route is like being present at an animated art exhibition, each kilometer presenting a new canvas that calls forth exclamations of pleasure. One loses, to a certain degree, the sense of time, thanks to a profusion of scenic delights. The line travels through two tunnels of moderate length, cut into the hills above the sea, before it approaches the Kaaimans River Bridge, 210 meters long and 36 meters high. By lunch time we will reach Knysna and after a quick lunch we will travel by road back to Port Elizabeth.
(Stay over in Port Elizabeth, Lodge.)

Day 7: It is time to say our goodbeys and after a hearty breakfast you will be on your way to your next destination.

This tour will leave you well informed on the historic and cultural back ground of the region, will give you an appreciation for the scenic beauty of the area and most of all leave you with a longing to return to this friendly warm people of South Africa.
