When Portugal was constituted an independent nation, in the whole Northern region, the birthplace of nationality, had already been constructed many castles, some as centre of defence for the most important populations, others placed on almost inaccessible sites or on strategic points dominating the transit of an eventual invader. This net of fortifications extended while the conquest of the national territory advanced, and was gradually enriched with new constructions, determined to defend the borders and also to better guarantee the regional defence. Come with us to cross the wavy plains of Alentejo, knowing, recognizing and experimenting the characteristic roughness of the castles marked by vicissitudes of hundreds of years of battles and wars. Get to understand the organisation of the crusades, the battles of reconquest, the Romanisation and Arabization of the Portuguese territory, and simultaneously enjoy the unique landscapes, flavoured with typical tastes of the regional gastronomy and the smells, sounds and colours of a rich culture, deeply rooted in the national history.
