This is a new tour being offered by WASAI Lodge and Expeditions to offer a genuine rainforest wilderness experience and an excellent opportunity to see some of the wildlife that Tambopata is famous for. A complete program which combines the comfort of beautiful lodges with the experience to spend a night camping in the Bahuaja Sonene National Park.
Day 1 You will be met for one of our staff members at the airport, and be transfer to the WASAI Maldonado Eco Lodge, where you will be greeted with a delicious tropical juice.. After a short rest we will start a 4 hours journey to our lodge in the Tambopata National Reserve. During the boat trip we will have the chance to see different kind of birds and mammals that live along the river bank of the Tambopata River, such as capybaras, caimans, turtles, vultures, parrots and macaws.
At your arrival on Tambopata lodge, the staff will help you to accommodate in your bungalow.
After dinner, your guide will give you a brief explanation and some tips for your security and comfort during your stay in the Amazon jungle. Then, your guide will introduce you to Amazon Rainforest ecosystems with a nocturnal walk.
Just to start, we will have a night walk trying to see some insects like frogs, spiders, tarantulas, moths and exotic animals only see on this part of the world.
Day 2 We will wake up early in the morning to cross the Tambopata River to visit the parrots’ clay lick near to the river bank. You will have the opportunity to see a beautiful spectacle when thousands of parrots and parakeets gather to eat clay. On our way back to the lodge, we might see wild animals such as monkeys and other interesting plants and insects. We will come back to the lodge for breakfast and have some time to relax in the beautiful surroundings of the lodge, go fishing or swim in a nearby waterfall.
After lunch, we will start an hour journey through the Tambopata River up to the Bahuaja-Sonene National Park. This journey is an excellent opportunity to see birds and animals such as capybaras, jaguars and large caimans. In the afternoon, we will arrive at our campsite near to the Macaws’ clay lick “El Chuncho”. After set our camp, we will enjoy the beautiful sunset and if you want, you can swim in the river or go for fishing. At night, we will attempt to see wild animals like jaguars and caimans at the clay lick where they usually go for hunting other species such us capybaras, ronsocos, ect.
Day 3 We will wake up at dawn with the sound of Howler Monkeys and hundreds of parakeets wheeling through the red morning sky, to see one of the world's great wildlife spectacles, when thousands of macaws, parrots and parakeets arrive in couples or groups, depending on the species. They spend hours at a time screeching, squabbling, gurgling and purring at each other in the crowns of trees surrounding the clay lick before they decide to descend to eat small portion of clay. At the end, more than 500 of parakeets and macaws congregate on the clay. After that, you will have a simple breakfast on the beach followed by a short walk through the forest searching for birds and caimans. At midday, we will come back to the lodge for a late breakfast. After lunch, we will start an Ethno botanical walk to learn about medicinal plants, go for fishing in our small lagoon or enjoy our adventure activities in the lodge. After dinner, your guide will give you a brief explanation about caiman’s behaviour before to start an exciting journey around the tambopata River searching for caimans.
Day 4 We will wake up with the beautiful sunrise of the jungle to leave the lodge. During the way back you will still have the opportunity to see wild animals and enjoy the fresh morning of the jungle. We will arrive at WASAI Maldonado Lodge for lunch. You will have a break to enjoy the facilities of the lodge like the swimming pool. In the afternoon we will start our last journey through the Madre de Dios River and from there walk through the forest searching for howler monkeys and other wild species until reach the spectacular Sandoval Lake. Once on the lake, we will paddle in a wooden canoe around the lake enjoying the view and searching for Giant River Otters Black Caimans and birds such as Hoatzin (prehistoric bird) and Aningha. Later in the afternoon, we will walk back through the forest to look for some nocturnal creatures and then, travel back to the lodge enjoying the beautiful sunset.
Farewell dinner.
Day 5 Breakfast and transfer to the airport.
