July 26: Arrive in Santiago - Chile and connect to Calama.There we will have a transfer of approximately 90 minutes to the town of San Pedro de Atacama, an oasis village at the northern end of the Atacama Salt Flats. At 2,440 meters (8,000 feet) above sea level. San Pedro preserves a colonial feeling. We will have dinner, as your body gets accustomed to the altitude.
July 27: San Pedro de Acatama (Chile)
Early this morning we depart to the world famous El Tatio Geysers. Being among the geysers is like walking in the course of a large steam bath. Ringed by volcanoes and fed by 64 gurgling geysers and hundreds of gassy fumeroles, at 4,300 meters (14,100 feet) above sea level, El Tatio is the world's highest geyser field. We then return to San Pedro to relax some before lunch, then visit Tulor, a circular group of adobe structures and the oldest excavated village in the region. Then we continue to the Moon Valley, named because of its lunal-like surface eroded by eons of flood and wind. We will then return to San Pedro to have dinner and stay overnight.
July 28: Overnight bus to Arica (Chile)
After breakfast, will walk through the streets of San Pedro, visit the main church, then after lunch drive down to the salt flats, where we will have the opportunity to witness 3 species of flamingos (James, Chilean and Andean). The Atacama Salt Flats offers impressive views of the Andes, including the Licancabur Volcano. We will then visit the village of Toconao, a fruit-growing oasis and the church of San Lucas with its separate bell tower dating back to the mid-18th century. Then we head back to San Pedro for dinner & overnight bus to Arica (9 hrs approx.)
July 29: Cusco - Peru
After arriving Arica we will have a transfer to Tacna (Peru) for our short flight to Cusco. Cusco, recognized as the archaeological capital of the Americas, and the oldest continually inhabited city on the continent, is 3,326 meters (10,900 feet) above sea level. We will check into our hotel, lunch, then visit the Cathedral, Koricancha (Temple of the Sun),Tambomachay (ceremonial stone bath), Qenco (meaning ZigZag, which is large limestone rock covered with carvings), Puca Pakara (Red Fort), and and the ruins of Sacsahuaman (the most impressive ruins next to Cusco). Then we will return to Cusco for our dinner.
July 30: Machu Picchu
Morning train (Vistadome) to Machu Picchu town, and tour to Machu Picchu ruins. Details to be discover by you.
July 31: Machu Picchu
We will have another full day to enjoy Machu Picchu, but let's get an early start for those who want to climb the Huayna Picchu, from which many consider to have the best view of the area. If you prefer, you can relax amid the ruins below and feed your mind and soul with inspiration. Again, we will have our box lunch on site and meet for dinner in town.
Aug 01: Sacred Valley
Free morning after lunch we will take the train to Sacred Valley, walking tour around Urubamba town. Dinner.
Aug 02: Cusco
After having breakfast in the hotel and packing up the van, we will visit the colonial Andean village of Pisac, which comes alive each Sunday morning with its famous weekly open market, lunch and tranfer to Cusco. Dinner.
Aug 03: end
After breakfast transfer back to airport
