
"Trekking with yaks"
Day 1: Ulaanbaatar
Meet with the local guide and driver upon arrival and transfer to the hotel. After having a rest in the hotel we will go out for exploring Ulaanbaatar city. In the evening we will be performed by traditional Mongolian folk music ensemble.

Day 2: Elsen Tasarkhai
Today we will depart from Ulaanbaatar after breakfast and drive heading to the west through Mongolian endless steppe and valleys. There is small rolling hills on the way and occasional families will be appearing on the side of the road and numerous herd of animals. End of the day we will reach an interesting land formation called Elsan tasarhai. This is unique sand dune cutting across rocky mountain and lush green valley and small lake.

Day 3: Erdene zuu
Short drive after leaving the sand dunes we will drive into an ancient 13th century capital city Kharakhorin where flourishing Mongol empire held its’ wealth, science, education and trade center. Nowadays there is very little remaining from the actual town but this place is the home for Mongolian one of the oldest and biggest Buddhist monastery Erdene Zuu.

Day 4: Orkhon Waterfall
Another full day into the wilderness and beautiful nature. On the way to tonight’s camp site we will stop by the old monastery dating back to 17th century. Located on top of the mountain surrounded by thick forest and away from all human interruption this place is ideal place for meditating or creating. That’s exactly what first founder of the temple did almost 400 years ago. We will visit this enchanting little temple on foot walking up through the forest. This will give us nice little exercise. Short drive after visiting the temple will take us to waterfall where we start tenting.

Day 5: Bodonchiin hamar
Today we start trekking for full day. Yaks will come in the morning and pack all camping gears and we will start trekking through lush green valley. This area was an active volcanic eruptions once and now it’s soil is fertile that provides lot of greenery and vegetation. Packing up and loading luggage onto a yaks equally always takes little bit time on first day so we will have an easy day and short hike for today.

Day 6: Duruu Lake
This day we will ascend up through heavily forested area into a steep mountain side and will eventually come into a depression that is holding 8 small lakes separate from one another. We will have a lunch stop on first small lake and will trek along the others until we reach our campsite for the day.

Day 7-10: Eight Lakes area
These days we will be trekking through one of the most beautiful places in the world. Because of its’ high altitude and extended greenery this area provides its’ own unique micro climate. Comparing to other parts of Mongolia this area has more humidity. Easy trekking days and swimming in the water enjoying the true silence and natural beauty.

Day 11: Shireet pass
Today is our last day of trekking and we will be trekking up to the mountain pass to get out of the depression. We will meet with the vehicle on top of the pass and say goodbye to our yaks and yak herders and will continue our trip with vehicles.

Day 12: Hustai National park
This morning we will drive to wild horse reserve where they are trying to reintroduce majestic Mongolian Takhi horses back into the wild. Optional hiking around the park is suggested after seeing the horses in the wild.

Day 13: Ulaanbaatar
After having breakfast in the ger camp we will go for Ulaanbaatar city and we will be arriving to the city before lunch. After checking in hotel and having lunch we will go for some shopping in town.

Day 14: Departure
Transfer to the airport and depart for your next destination.

Special Hints: Khangai is one of the biggest Mountain chains in Mongolia. Highest of the range is more than 4000m above sea level but in this trip we will be trekking up to 2500-2800m above sea level. This particular area is located in central part of Mongolia rich with larch tree forest, crystal clear fast running mountain rivers and small lakes. Our highlight of this trip will be set of lakes located on top of mountain and surrounded with natural beauty and peace.
