Day 2: Nairobi Day Tour
Today we have a full day in Nairobi. We visit Nairobi Museum in the
morning,ElephantOrphanage and the Giraffe Centre. Both the Elephant
Orphanage and the Giraffe Centre are involved heavily with wildlife
conservation. This also offers a special opportunity to get close to the
animals.
We depart from the Museum at 11 am and head for David Sheldrick
Elephant Orphanage for abandoned young elephants. Here we spend an hour or so
watching whilst the youngsters are being fed and perhaps bathed by their
handlers. The orphanage seeks to look after and rehabilitate orphaned
elephants, with the long-term intention of re-introducing them into the
wild. The rehabilitation process is long term as the orphan elephants
need 24 hour care, attention and stimulation - the keepers even need to sleep in the
elephant pens as the baby elephants are scared of the dark!
Orphaned Rhino and Zebra also come into the care of David Sheldrick at
times.
From there we head to the Giraffe Centre and feed the giraffes; maybe if
you are brave enough you could kiss one of them, as you can get so
close! (Not compulsory!).We stop for lunch at Karen Coffee club- the restaurant has
a nice playground which may appeal to younger children. After lunch we make a stop
at the Utamaduni Craft Market, where a massive range of Kenyan arts and crafts are
on sale, before arriving back at the hotel by mid-afternoon. Here you can rest or
spend a few hours at the pool before dinner. You may like to go out to dinner at
Carnivores Restaurant this evening or the leader will be able to suggest one of the
city's fine
restaurants.Dinner and overnight. NAIROBI SAFARI CLUB \HILL PARK HOTEL
Day 3: Lake Nakuru National Park
This morning we drive north from Nairobi to Lake Nakuru, one of the many
lakes of the Great Rift Valley, checking into our lodge, which is
located inside the national park. Lake Nakuru, a soda lake, forms the
centrepiece of the Lake Nakuru National Park. The lake is probably most famous for
the thousands of pink flamingos, which can be found here, turning the waters of the
lake into a carpet of pink.
We take our first game drive in the national park this afternoon,
searching for the animals that live here. This could include cape
Buffalo, Giraffe, Waterbuck, Rhinoceros and maybe lion or Leopard. Rhinos are highly
endangered but the Lake Nakuru area provides a good chance of
seeing some of these prehistoric looking animals up close!.Dinner and
overnight at LAKE NAKURU LODGE\LION HILL LODGE.
Day 4: Lake Naivasha
This morning we take an early morning drive in the park before we head
across to Lake Naivasha - a drive of about two hours. Set amongst
acacia woodland, the park-like grounds are visited by a wide variety of birds and
wildlife. The hotels offers a variety of sporting activities along with restaurants,
bars and a heated swimming pool.
In the afternoon we take a boat ride out on the Lake. There are quite a
lot of Hippos that live in the Lake, and there is a very good chance we
will find some.Being curious animals they often stick their head up out
of the water to look at us, and hopefully we'll hear them grunting at us,
or to each other, as we go by. When we return to shore and your hotel, you
may like to take a swim in the pool - there are no hippos here!.Dinner
and overnight at LAKE NAIVASHA COUNTRY CLUB\CRATER LAKE.
Days 5-7: Masai Mara National Reserve
This morning we drive southwest to the Masai Mara Reserve, which is one
of the most renowned wildlife areas in Africa, often boasting significant
numbers of animals. The area is known for its rolling green plains and
riverine woodlands, and amongst the many species of game, we may be
lucky to observe black-maned lions, leopard and cheetah. These predators find an
abundant food supply in the massive herds of wildebeest, zebra,
Thomson's and Grant's gazelle that often roam the grasslands. Like all the
wildlife areas we visit, the Mara is not a zoo and sightings of particular
species cannot be guaranteed - but with three days in the area the chances of seeing
most of these predators is good.
We will have three nights here, based in a private concession just outside
the reserve. This will give us plenty of time to undertake game drives
looking for a wide number of plains animals and perhaps some of the
predators, which can be found in the area.Game drives tend to be taken
from early to mid-morning, and from mid-afternoon to sunset, which are
the cooler times of the day, when the animals tend to more active. In
addition to game drives, the camp has a swimming pool, and you may also choose to go
on walks with guides and to meet some of the local Masai
tribes-people in their village.Dinner and overnight at MARA SERENA LODGE\SIANA
SPRINGS LODGE.

Nairobi. We arrive back in Nairobi in the late afternoon .If you are
